Using Other Quick-Release Systems on the Wimberley Head WH-100
If you are currently using a quick release system other than the one mentioned above, you may want to attach your current system to the Wimberley Head. You are welcome to try this, although there are some things to look out for:
You must be able to slide the lens forward and backward in order to adjust the balance when switching camera bodies, lenses, or teleconverters. This means that your quick-release system must be a sliding dovetail design (such as the Arca-Swiss style system that we offer), where the plate can slide forward and backward in the jaws of the clamp (when the jaws are loose). Unfortunately, most quick release systems are not this style. They have a fixed pocket design which does not allow any forward and backward adjustment. If you want to use a fixed pocket quick release, you may attach the quick release clamp from your system to the head using the four-pronged knob fastening system (detailed in the section above). This will allow you to slide the entire quick release system (clamp and plate) forward and backward in the slot on the Wimberley head platform, thus, adjusting the position of your lens. This will work, but if you plan to use the Wimberley Head a lot, it is much more convenient to go with a sliding dovetail design such as the option we offer.
If your current quick-release system is of a sliding dovetail design, simply fasten your clamp to the Wimberley Head and you should be ready to go. If you let us know what size fasteners you need we may be able to supply them with the head.
